Learn the golf swing BALL POSITION used by the Pros
The key to striking the golf ball consistently well is by using the proper golf swing ball position. Besides being confused about which golf grip to use, people also get confused as to how close or how far away from the golf ball one must stand to make accurate contact with their golf clubs. They are also not sure how far the ball should be forward or back of their stance. The following golf tips should remove any doubts or confusion about the proper golf swing ball position.
The proper golf swing ball position begins with understanding how each golf club head lies on a flat surface. Take each club from the loftiest wedges to the driver and check how each club head lies flat on the ground. It may be better to check the lie of each club on an evenly flat floor before taking the clubs outside. Start with a sand wedge that usually has a face with an angle of about 56 degrees. Before placing the head of the sand wedge on the flat surface, take your normal stance to set up for the golf swing ball position.
Your arms should rest naturally and relaxed directly below your shoulders as you bend forward a little bit from the hips. With your arms hanging down, your hands will be right over the top of your shoes. Bring both hands directly together in the center of your stance. The position of your hands will be about five to six inches away from you body. If you allow the head of the sand wedge to lie flat on the ground while holding the grip of the club in the center of your stance, you will notice that the club shaft is in a straight line with your left arm (for right handed golfers), and that the ball position should be about three ball widths back of the center of your stance nearer your right foot. You now have the correct golf swing ball position for the sand wedge.
Follow the same techniques as listed above for the rest of your clubs to find the golf swing ball position for your swing. With the middle length irons (9, 8, 7, and 6), you will notice that ball position will be more in the direct center of your stance. The longer clubs, such as your 4 iron, 3 iron, or 2 iron will be a little closer to your left foot for right handed golfers. The proper golf swing ball position for your driver will normally be directly in front of the heel of your left foot, or even the instep of your left foot.
As a quick review, the golf swing ball position is determined by your stance, your hands, the club selection, and other variables such as how strong the wind is blowing. For instance, if the wind is very strong, place the ball back a little from center of your stance, take your mid-range iron, and strike the ball. Notice that the ball will have a straighter and lower flight, keeping it from being severely blown off target by the wind. The further you place the ball up in your stance, the higher the ball will fly. So, depending on how you want the ball to approach your target with a high, low, or spinning shot, is determined by the correct golf swing ball position.
